Supply and fit available

The floors we fit

Herringbone, chevron and parquet

Blocks and panels are set out from the centre line, so the pattern runs true into doorways and bays.

Parquet installation requires more skill, more patience and more time on site than straight plank.

Engineered and solid wood

Floated, glued or secret-nailed, depending on the subfloor underneath.

We will recommend and quote for the method that suits your subfloor.

LVT

Click and glue-down luxury vinyl tile, including herringbone layouts. A sensible choice for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms, where water would be a problem for timber.

We do not fit carpet or sheet vinyl.

Laminate

A sound choice on a level subfloor with proper expansion gaps, and the water-resistant ranges cope well with busy kitchens and hallways.

Good preparation is what makes a laminate floor last.

We have fitted Ted Todd, V4, Woodpecker, Quick-Step, Junckers, Boen and Furlong, among others. If you have bought a floor elsewhere, we can usually quote to fit it.

How it works

1. Send the details

Room sizes, a few photos, and the floor you are thinking of. If you have not chosen one yet, we are happy to talk through the options.

2. Survey and quote

We pop over to measure up and have a look at the subfloor, then send you a written quote covering the fitting and the preparation.

3. Confirm the project

Once you are happy, we book a date, let you know how to prepare the room, and get started. On renovations we can work around the other trades, including evenings and weekends where it keeps the job moving.

What a flooring job includes

Our services include

Lifting the old floor, preparing the subfloor and laying the new one, floating or glue-down.

Setting out and all the cutting. Levelling compound and damp-proof membrane are quoted separately, as both need time to dry before the floor can go down.

We can often supply the bits that go under and around the floor, such as adhesive and underlay, unless you would rather use the manufacturer’s own products.

Taking the old floor away, quoted separately, along with clearing the waste from the fitting.

Supplied by you

Scotia, trims and thresholds are usually best ordered from the floor manufacturer, so the stain matches your boards.

Skirting is normally easy to pick up from a local builders’ merchant.

The floor itself. We can supply it if you would prefer, though most customers choose and order their own.

What affects the cost of fitting a floor

Every room is a little different, so here are the common variables that affect the price.

  • The subfloor. A floor goes down quickest when the subfloor is level, sound, clean, dry within moisture tolerance and structurally stable. Anything that needs levelling, boarding or time to dry will add to the job.
  • The pattern. Herringbone, chevron and parquet ask for more skill and patience to set out, and more time on site than straight plank.
  • The shape of the room. Bays, fireplaces, kitchen islands and awkward thresholds all add complexity.
  • Bespoke requests. Borders, feature panels and anything out of the ordinary.
  • The old floor. Lifting and taking it away is quoted separately, as taking up tiles is a very different job from taking up carpet.

Send over the room sizes and a few photos and we will come back with a proper figure. Happy to answer any questions along the way, and there is no obligation.

Common questions about floor fitting

How long will it take?

Most single rooms are a day. A ground floor is usually two to four days, and herringbone or parquet takes longer. We will give you a timescale with your quote.

Do I need to move the furniture?

If you can clear the room before we arrive that helps, and we are happy to give you a hand with anything heavy.

Can you fit over underfloor heating?

Often, yes, and we follow the manufacturer guidelines for whichever floor you have chosen. Engineered boards and LVT are usually suitable, and solid wood normally is not. We will check the build-up when we survey.

Do you take the old floor away?

Yes, we can do that for you. We quote it separately so you can see what it costs and decide.

Do I have to buy the floor from you?

Not at all. A good share of our work is fitting floors people have bought themselves, and we are glad to do it.
